Feeding high viscosity materials from the original containers

We present here the A220 and A280 solutions for automated fluid dispensing operations. These are solutions developed for feeding high-viscosity and / or abrasive materials, both mono-component and two-component, commonly used in sealing, potting or thermal conduction applications. These materials are generally supplied in standard drums and require a resistant and reliable feeding process. Only a good material preparation and feeding system guarantees a good dispensing system.

Units A220 and A280 have a compact design with a disposable follower plate. This allows direct and bubble-free feeding of materials, offering users a simplified process and ensuring high reliability.

So, the original drum (hobbock, pail) is placed in the hobbock drawer and the control unit starts the docking process after the safety door is closed. This lowers the patented vacuum follower plate into the drum, where the follower plate automatically and quickly (< 5 min.) attaches itself (docks) to the material without air pockets. It is a follower plate made of polypropylene, which provides exceptional material compatibility with the most frequently used potting media.

Material feeding starts fully automatically. After removal, the empty drum is discarded together with the follower plate. Docking the next drum with a new vacuum follower plate avoids the risk of introducing residual material into the drum, as often happens when we use incorrectly conventional rubber follower plates.

  • Cost-effective solution thanks to almost complete emptying of the drum.
  • Fast drum changes without transferring material residue.

Unit A220

Specifically, unit A220 is the solution for feeding high viscosity, non-abrasive potting compounds. The reciprocating piston pump used in this system ensures a continuous supply of material, which is pumped during both the downward and upward stroke, making it a rugged, cost-effective system.

This unit is also available in a new entry-level system – A220 Basic

Like its large sister system A220, the A220 Basic, too, has an integrated reciprocating pump, which guarantees a reliable and continuous material supply. The integrated filling level control unit as well as the electro-pneumatic pressure control unit ensure a high process reliability during the whole feeding process. It has a semiautomatic docking process through a two-hand circuit and visual check via a pressure gauge.

Unit A280

Unit A280 is the ideal solution for highly viscous and abrasive media such as thermal conductive materials. It features a reliable Scheugenpflug dual-piston pump. This pump comes in contact with the material on only one side, while a barrier fluid on the reverse side prevents abrasive fillers from adhering to the seals. This gives the material preparation system an unsurpassed service life when feeding highly abrasive, paste-like media.

Expanding ring

The vacuum follower plate extends the application range with the new development of the expanding ring. This device contains an inflatable seal, which spreads the vacuum follower plate during docking to the material container. This ensures a perfect seal between the follower plate and the inner wall of the pail.

The new expanding ring enables also a bubble-free material feed from conical containers as well as from variable container sizes (inner diameter 281.5 mm – 288 mm).

  • Fully compatible with cylindrical and conical containers.
  • More efficient use of materials and consequently increased costs savings.

Certainly, such units with vacuum follower plate are essential for the precise and bubble-free feeding of highly viscous materials directly from the original containers; they optimize also the material use and the container change process.
